Quality Control Supervisor

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions, enforcing policies and procedures
  • Responsible for performance evaluations of QC team members and for providing training and development opportunities
  • Order chemicals, consumables and equipment as necessary
  • Conduct Product Conformance Investigations (PCI) on products that are believed to be nonconforming or defective
  • Interface with QA on documentation for audits, validation, medical devices, regulated materials and critical raw materials
  • Maintain QC coverage schedule to support production
  • Interface directly with production on issues that relate to product quality
  • Participate in internal and external audits
  • Interface directly with customers and suppliers on quality-related issues
  • Organize and oversee COAs, COCs and pre-ship samples for sales and customers
  • Produce customer specialty samples as necessary
  • Perform quality control tests on raw materials, intermediates and finished products. Issue adjustments, approvals and rejections as needed
  • Develop product specifications
  • Develop and document product test methods
  • Develop and document equipment and activity SOP’s as they relate to QC
  • Perform control chart monitoring of production and quality activities
  • Maintain quality control documents and production records
  • Complete special assignments as required
  • Perform duties as a junior/ senior chemist in the laboratory, which includes knowledge of all products, batch cards, and creating products
  • Routinely work with hazardous chemicals and waste
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and coordinate new equipment onboarding tasks

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years directly related experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Manufacturing Experience
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills – ability to interface and communicate at all levels internally and externally
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Computer Proficient-High proficiency with MS Office

 

Desired Skills

  • Ability to teach aspects of plant and process chemistry
  • Knowledge and familiarity with ISO, FDA, cGMP, OSHA, EPA standards
  • Manufacturing Experience
  • Previous experience working in color/pigment industry
  • Previous experience working in the chemical industry
  • ERP/MRP software experience

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in science related field, preferably chemistry

  • Physical Demands:  Employee is required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.  Ability to wear/use personal protective equipment as required such as lab coat, goggles, gloves, masks, etc.

 

  • Work Environment: This position requires one to work both in an office environment and a lab. Ability to work in an upright and /or stationary position for 6-8 hours per day. Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists to operate lab equipment.  On occasion, may be exposed to light fumes or airborne particles.
